La Libre talks about Kaspard's fall detection

Being an entrepreneur in the medical sector is a real challenge, indeed the sector is very regulated, so risk-taking is very delicate, declared, on Tuesday, Sophie Lienart, coordinator of the Life Tech Brussels project, during the presentation of the projects accompanied in the framework of Med Tech Accelerator, the first national edition of the acceleration programme dedicated́ to startups in the medical sector.

This programme accompanies and helps selected entrepreneurs with an innovative project for 4 months.

The first project being Innovadent which aims to develop a dental composite and a light source used for its intake in oral cavitý. Innovadent aims to cure the material in a reduced time which allows for a more efficient and ergonomic treatment for the dentist.

The second project is Stella Screen. The aim is to develop antifibrotic drugs. They are used in the case of soda disease, which is characterised by an accumulation of fat in the liver that leads to inflammation and an accumulation of scar tissue. Stella Screen's drugs combat this accumulation of scar tissue by screening their library of molecules.

The third project selected is that of Kaspard, an innovative project that aims to reduce the risks and falls of the elderly. It is a small device that is fixed to the wall of the resident's room. The device detects when the resident leaves the bed for too long and falls and warns the nursing staff directly. The waiting time between the fall and the intervention of the staff is then drastically reduced.

Lifetech. Brussels followed by Medtech Flanders have been running their first acceleration programmes for entrepreneurs in the medical sector since 2016.This year, the 3 regions have joined forces to create a unique programme: the Medtech Accelerator. It aims to mentor projects and accelerate the process and awareness of the critical elements to be integrated in their business plan. This year, Medtech helped 16 projects to accelerate their growth.
